Cockroaches are nocturnal insects that spend most of their time in hidden harborage sites — behind refrigerators, inside cabinets, under sinks, within wall voids, and inside electrical equipment. A cockroach seen during daylight hours indicates harborage sites are overcrowded.
The two species our Ithaca technicians treat most frequently are the German cockroach and the American cockroach — each requiring a different approach. German cockroaches live and breed entirely indoors, reproduce at high rates, and are prone to developing resistance when repeatedly exposed to the same insecticide. Species identification is the essential first step.

DIY aerosol sprays are counterproductive ahead of professional treatment. They cause colony dispersal — cockroaches retreat deeper into walls and appliance interiors, making the distribution of infestation harder to map and the colony harder to reach. Why Cockroach Infestations Are a Health Issue, Not Just a Nuisance
